View: 176 Update: 2025-11-09 Category: Local News

Planning to teach in China is an exciting adventure! Proper preparation is key to a smooth start. This practical checklist will guide you.

Phase 1: Before You Go (3-4 Months Prior)

  1. Research: Learn about your target city's culture and cost of living. Join online expat groups for insights.
  2. Documents: Prepare your resume, degree, and reference letters. Start your Police Clearance Certificate process early, as it takes time.
  3. Job Hunt & Contract: Find a position through a reliable agency. Scrutinize your contract—pay, hours, vacation, and termination clauses. Get promises in writing.

Phase 2: Visa Process (After Signing Contract)

Your employer will apply for your Work Permit Notification. Use this to apply for your Z-Visa at the Chinese embassy/consulate. Follow the document checklist meticulously.

Phase 3: Your First Month in China

  1. Police Registration: Register your address at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival.
  2. Convert Your Visa: Your employer will help you convert your Z-Visa into a Residence Permit for long-term stay.
  3. Settle In: Get a local SIM card, open a bank account, and explore your neighborhood.
  4. Keep an open mind and view the initial adaptation as part of the journey. Your employer and local support networks are there to help.
