Life & Documents: A Local Guide for New Foreign Teachers

View: 172 Update: 2025-11-09 Category: Local News

Welcome to our city! The first few weeks are a mix of excitement and challenge. This local guide will help you settle in and start enjoying your new life.

Settling Into Daily Life

  1. Housing: We can offer advice or assistance. Find your local wet market, supermarket, and convenience store—it's the best way to start living like a local.
  2. Transport: Get a public transportation card. Download map apps like Amap or Baidu Map for real-time bus and metro routes.
  3. Social & Language: Don't stay only in the foreign teacher bubble. Try joining local events or hobby groups. Learning basic Chinese phrases like "Nihao" and "Xiexie" will make daily life much easier.

Finalizing Your Legal Status

Once settled, prioritize these final legal steps:

  1. Police Registration: Must be done within 24 hours of arrival. Keep the registration slip safe.
  2. Health Check & Work Permit: You may need a health check at a designated clinic. Your employer will then use this and your passport to get your Foreigner's Work Permit card.
  3. Residence Permit: Finally, go with your employer to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to convert your Z-Visa into a Residence Permit. Do this before your Z-Visa expires.

Remember, you're not alone. Reach out to your employer or us for help with any issues. We wish you a smooth and fantastic start in our city
